So today during my Ortho/Neuro class, we had the topic of ALS, and thinking back on it now, I seem silly, but I raised my hand, just to say the disease was a hard disease to live with, for the patient and family, especially due to the cognitive function of the patient remaining intact and how much the medication was for a monthly supply. THEN! I end up crying, it was a mess, but I hope someone got something out of me sharing and humiliating myself. Even if its just to see how hard it is on the family.
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
Pretty much, the person starts to lose the ability to move, speak, walk, talk, eat, and even breath. While their mind is still there and they know everything thats going on, they just can't move their body. Its very sad.
I miss my grandma, and nursing school has been a good distraction, but when it comes up, its still very painful. Hopefully they find a cure soon.

Aww Jilly you were fine, I think we all get it. Something has affected each one of us and we are going to get emotional at some point. Its all good, if we felt nothing we'd be terrible nurses.
